Control Panic and Anxiety

You’re on this site because you’re desperate to control your panic and anxiety. I know exactly where you’re coming from, because I’ve been there. In fact, that’s why I started this site in the first place. I wanted to create something that could be a great resource to those who are struggling with anxiety and panic.

It’s hard for those who’ve never experienced these symptoms to fully understand what we go through. They are quick to tell us to just “get through it,” when it could never be that simple. I want you to know that you’re not alone and you never will be. There are ways to get through this. What works for me might not work for you, and vice versa. It’s about finding your path to relief.

There are a few principles of managing panic and anxiety that I adhere to.

  • Medication should not be the first answer
  • We need to evaluate our basic needs and make sure we are meeting those needs
  • We should find natural, safe methods of restoring balance to our body and mind
  • We should consult with a professional before trying any remedy

Medication Should Not Be the First Answer

So many people out there start experiencing symptoms of anxiety and panic. They visit their doctor to get relief. They leave with a prescription for one of the common anxiety or depression drugs. They start to see relief…but it comes at a cost.

Medication can cover up the causes of anxiety. It’s important to find methods that are safe and natural and that truly work with your body and mind to help you feel whole and ‘normal’ again. I’m not saying medication is never the answer– because it absolutely is. But, when it is used, it should be used as part of an overall plan. Holistic health is especially important for those who go through panic and anxiety.

Please consult your doctor, and make it known that you wish to try other methods first. If he or she strongly suggests you go on medication, you may do so as long as you work on other aspects of yourself at the same time. Your health and well being is the top priority, no matter which treatment plan you go with.

We Need to Evaluate Our Basic Needs

Today’s life is very stressful. We are expected to move at breakneck speed in life, family, business, work, and other responsibilities. Our plates are very full– it’s no wonder so many of us are anxious and stressed! I urge you to make sure you are meeting the most basic needs in your life. Are you getting adequate sleep? Sleep and the circadian rhythm are very important, and often ignored in our society. Getting enough sleep sets the foundation for overall health.

Are you getting enough exercise? Cardio fitness is very important. Get up and move– even if it’s just taking a walk around the block. I bet you’ll see a great improvement because it gets your heart pumping. Plus, you get the side benefits of the restoration nature can bring. There is a strong correlation between being ‘one’ with nature and feeling whole in your life.

What about your diet? So much of our diet choices are full of fat, processed ingredients, and genetically modified food. It’s getting harder, not easier, to eat well. Start shopping the perimeter of the store. Find whole food alternatives to your favorite processed foods. Start keeping fresh fruits and vegetables in your home and leave the ‘bad for you’ foods on the store shelves to avoid temptation.

Find Safe, Natural Methods to Treat Anxiety and Panic

There is some awesome research coming out about natural methods that can help relieve your symptoms. For instance, fish oil and cod liver oil has been found to relieve symptoms for many. Magnesium is another popular treatment that is vital for overall health. Getting the right balance of vitamins, especially B vitamins have been found to be helpful. Vitamin D, more like a hormone, is absolutely essential and often depleted in those who are dealing with anxiety.

I’ll talk a lot about various treatment options on this blog. Some will fit in with your plans and others will not. Always think about what your body needs and listen to your heart to find the right path for you. It’s about health, restoration, mind, body, and spirit.

Work With a Professional

I must tell you that I am not a health professional. I’m a passionate researcher who has dealt with lifelong anxiety and panic issues myself. The secret is finding a practitioner who practices health and medicine in a way that fits in line with who you are and what you want. Not all practitioners are created equal! There are some who will always turn to the prescription pad first, and that’s likely not the path you want for yourself.
